ANSWER:

In Islam, he is either your husband or a non mahram stranger. There isn’t anything in between.

Until the marriage contract is signed, he is a non mahram and you must not have any contact with him.

The only exception is when he comes for the initial interview to see you for the first time and talk to you in the presence of your guardian or mahram.
During this interview, you may both look at each other and talk to know each other. After that, you must not have any contact unless there is a legitimate need for it.
